Who needs an editor?
However
careful you might be, you probably will not always see what you have written.
Mistakes creep in for many reasons:
- Lapses in concentration
- "Seeing" what you intended to write
- Being too involved with and close to the material to be able to see mistakes
- Multiple changes and revisions
- Insufficient knowledge of grammar, punctuation, style sheets, MSWord, or the conventions of special kinds of writing
- Not knowing the requirements for professional and academic style sheets - such as Chicago, AP, APA, and MLA.
Even people who write and express themselves well can suffer from any of these
from time to time. That is why we provide new eyes.
About Us
Experience:
We are published writers,
academicians, journalists,
and college instructors of English composition, language, communications,
and literature. Our range of interests and knowledge is broad: the
biological sciences, history, sociology, education, psychology, anthropology,
philosophy, political science, management, art, economics, music, and
other fields. We are experienced in writing and
copyediting grant proposals,
marketing copy,
business reports and correspondence
(with a guarantee of non-disclosure of sensitive personnel
or proprietary information), medical papers and cover letters to accompany
college and job applications. Our fiction editor
is a published writer of textbooks, short stories and novels.
English as a Second Language:
We have worked with customers on nearly every continent and throughout the United States and have
enjoyed exceptional success in working with ESL writers. These include those whose
native language is Polish, Japanese, Estonian, Portuguese, Spanish, Korean, Swedish,
Kurdish, Arabic, and German.
Personal contact:
We believe in establishing a direct, personal relationship with
our customers and encourage them to talk with us
by email or telephone.
What we do
Our brains are hard-wired to look for and correct any problems in continuity and
transitions, style, usage, word choice, grammar, punctuation, and sentence
structure. Naturally, this includes checking and correcting spelling (way beyond
MSWord) and proofreading for typos. We also rewrite if necessary and insert
marginal notes and questions for you as needed. Remember that you don't have to
accept any of our suggestions if you like it better your way, and we'll be glad
to explain anything you question.
Of course, Murphy's Law applies here: If you miss the error, it will jump out at the
person you need to impress favorably.
